Insurance Cover for Queensland U3As
An issue all U3A management committees need to address is that of insurance. As incorporated associations U3As and their members need to be protected by way of insurance cover. As a minimum, U3As need to maintain appropriate Public Liability and Personal Accident Insurance cover for volunteers.
Public liability insurance protects your incorporated association if a person is injured or their property is damaged due to an incident on the association’s property, or due to the incorporated association’s actions. Public liability insurance is compulsory if your incorporated association owns or leases land, or holds land in trust.
To enable savings on insurance policies through group discounts and to provide standard levels of cover across Queensland U3As, the Network Insurance Scheme was formed and has been in operation for several years. The Network renegotiates the range of policies held under the scheme annually to ensure value for money for member U3As and to maintain appropriate levels of cover.
The Insurance Fee for all participating U3As is $2.40 per member while the Membership Fee (to be a member of the Insurance Scheme) for the 2022/23 year is $0.58 per member. The number of members of each U3A used to calculate the annual fees (insurance fee and membership fee) is the number of members as at 30 November each year.
