Equally important to a lifestyle focused on wellness as we age is maintaining good mental health. Research has shown that continuing informal learning is important to one’s wellbeing mentally and also contributes to overall wellness.

U3As offer a variety of classes that provide the opportunity for continuing informal learning that may be undertaken at your own pace with people focused on a relaxed, fun learning experience.

Most U3A classes in Queensland follow school term dates in four terms.

U3A is well known for the new and continuing friendships that add to your quality of life, combined with a focus on having fun doing activities that suit your mobility and expertise levels.

Many people who join U3A may have over time separated geographically from their friends and family find a new lease of life joining groups of like-minded people doing interesting things together, or just having fun. Others who may have lost a life partner find solace in the company of supportive people in U3As, and they derive great benefit from this association. A phrase often heard is, “U3A saved my life.”

There’s no doubt that active people who focus on a healthy, fun-loving lifestyle live out fulfilling lives – and perhaps on average longer lives.

You probably more or less know the basics on how to live a healthy lifestyle. Some obvious first steps include eating more greens and superfoods and cutting back on sugars and alcohol. Sleeping, meditating, exercising and keeping stress levels low are other key ingredients in the recipe of wellness. But while it’s easy to write all these things down, and even keep them in the back of your mind as you continue with your day-to-day, how many of us can say that we’re practising these things on a regular basis?

As a member of a U3A you have access to a range of healthy, fun-loving activities that exercise the body and the mind – and there’s opportunities to continue learning something that interests you and without the pressure of exams.
