Rick was born in Lancashire, England and spent time in the British military travelling extensively to peacekeeping missions in trouble spots around the world. After leaving the military in 1980, he and his wife established a residential care home for the elderly on the Isle of Wight.
In 1989, the family moved to Australia where we continued to work in aged care, focusing on catering and nutrition, workplace health and safety, and food safety auditing.
After retiring, Rick took on voluntary positions including teaching computer skills to seniors using Apple Mac computers through Brisbane Seniors on-line and became a tutor at U3A Redcliffe in 2010, specialising in family history and genealogy research, having spent more than 30 in this field.
Rick holds a Certificate in Genealogical Research from the Society of Australian Genealogists, a Diploma in Family History from the University of Tasmania (UTAS), and a Diploma in Genealogy from the Centre of Excellence London. He continues to teach classes in family history for U3A Toowoomba. .
